It is often said that people become so heavenly minded as to be of no earthly good. However, I'm not sure how that would actually work. If, as we pray (at least weekly), we actually want God's will to be done, his kingdom to come on earth as it is in heaven, then our mind and heart need to be about the things of heaven in this place called earth. We need live out heavenly ways on earth. If we do, we will be of much earthly good.
The Book of Revelation prepares us for a heaven that is centered on worshiping God. Worship is the result of love. Our love for Jesus leads us to worship Jesus, and in worshiping Jesus we begin to emulate Jesus. When you love someone you want to be the best for him. With Jesus, our love leads us to "keep his word" (John 14:23-29). Rev. Blackwelder will help us think about what it means to keep Jesus' word in the sanctuary services this Sunday.

I will be speaking in The Well and will have my mind on heavenly things and heaven itself. Drawing on Revelation 21:10-22:5, we'll consider these heavenly gates and this new heaven and new earth. If we have a good sense of what God intends for us in the next life, we might live this life more reflective of that.
Tomorrow will be a great opportunity to reflect God's intentions in this life. Tomorrow (Saturday) at 7:30 AM, a group of people with skill levels that range from none to lots will gather in Central's Commons Area before going to help repair a couple of homes for those who need better shelter. Bring some work gloves and come be part of the fun.
Join us in showing God our love through service and worship this weekend.
